Unspecified caves (apparently man-made rock chambers) south-west of Kala Nao (BYRON 1937) or Qal'éh Nou (LINDBERG 1958: 123) contain neither paintings nor carvings (BYRON 1937 edited 1950: 112-113). IDENTITY: Both Kala Nao (BYRON 1937) and Qal'éh Nou (LINDBERG 1958: 123) means New Castle. Thus, the nameless caves about 2.5 km south-west of Kala Nao (BYRON, R 1937) is possibly the same as the likewise nameless cave near the –>Ziarat of Khwaja Abdul Rahman at Haji Samad / Hadji Samad, which is said to lie 5 km from Newcastle or à 5 km de Qal'éh Nou (LINDBERG 1958: 123: Grotte du Ziyaret de Khvadjah Abdour Rahman). SITUATION: In a hillside situated about 2.5 km along the road (note 1) south-west from Kala Nao (note 2) towards Sauzak Pass (note 3), Karokh (note 4) and Herat: Kala Nao (2,900 ft.), November 30th [1933 AD = 1427 Hejira] … This afternoon Nur Mohammad and I walked a mile and a half [2.5 km] back along the road we had come by to look at some caves in the hillside. Just beow them, I was attacked by vertigo and had to go down again before I was marooned. Nur Mohammad completed the exploration, and assures me they contain neither paintings nor carvings (BYRON, R 1937 edited 1950: 112-113).Unspecified caves (apparently man-made rock chambers) south-west of Kala Nao (BYRON 1937) or Qal'éh Nou (LINDBERG 1958: 123) contain neither paintings nor carvings (BYRON 1937 edited 1950: 112-113).
