Amboni Cave 5
-5.072694,39.042667
Location
Located at 5°04'21,7" S - 0.39°2'33,6’’ E on the southern bank of the Mukulumuzi River. Amboni cave 5 has five entrances. The main entrance is an enormous rift some 15 m high that is visible from the other side of the river.
Description
The entrance passage has been widened under phreatic conditions. Smaller passages with keyhole cross-sections lead from the entrance rift to the western entrances. The above-mentioned third tectonical structures directed approximately from N towards S are predominant in Amboni Cave 5. The main feature of the just 70 m long Amboni Cave 5 is its big bat colony that is responsible for exploitable accumulations of guano. A skeleton of the small species Coleura afra (Emballonuridae) has been found in 2000 (determination by Dr. D.Kock, SenckenbergMuseum, Frankfurt, Germany).
