Description
No known cave entance exists of an inaccessible cave, which possibly consists of a narrow rift cave passage, which engineering geologists regarded as a »known cavern« only because a void was intercepted when borehole 7 GPH was sunken (note 1) into the Narji Limestones exposed above the right bank of Gorrakallu Balance Reservoir. The assumed »Known Cave« was postulated in connection with sinking a borehole but was not confirmed by geophysical profiling methods (note 2).SITUATION: At a linear distance of 1.2 km east-southeast from the village of Gorakallu (N15°34'00”: E78°24'45.0” Everest 1830, Survey of India 57-I/06, 1982 edition).
NOTE 1: RAVINDRA NATH & SATYA KUMAR (1999: 177, location map on page 176): »The borehole 7 GPH drilled on the right hillock from RL [reservoir level] 260.499 m has indicated that the limestone was affected extensively by solution activity [karst and cave passages] up to a depth of 45 m (RL 215 m).« NOTE 2: SATYA PRASAD & RAMMOHAN (1992: 206-208): »Geophysical profiling methods (Turam and EM / Slingram) carried out over known caverns intercepted by boreholes 7 and 8 did not pick up any conspicuous and diagnostic anomalies that could be attributed to caves.«
