Description
Unspecified »caves« (or rock shelters) at »Lung-tiyar« (PRANAVANANDA 1949: 117-118) or »Lungtiyar« (SHARMA, M M 1994) are reached by walking from Jipti (Jibti N30°01': E080°43') 9.25 km (5.75 miles) to the about »70 feet« (21.3 m) high Najang Falls (Najiyang N30°04': E080°57'30"), then by steeply ascending 1.2 km (0.75 miles) to Bola pass (2438 m or 8000 feet asl) and a 1.2 km (0.75 miles) steep descent to Lungtiyar and its caves (note 1). Some 90 m or 100 m below the road is a luke warm spring of fresh water which does not smell of sulphur or any other substance.
NOTE 1: From Lungtiyar, the route continues descending steeply 0.5 miles (0.8 km) and after another half a mile one has to cross the Malpa-gad (Malpa Gad, Malpa Stream) by bridge and ascend steep 200 yards (183 m) to Malpa (Malipa N30°05': E080°44': 7200 feet = 2195 m asl). It takes another 15 miles (24 m or 25 km) to reach Garbyang (N30°07': E080°51' WGS84 nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003), also referred to as »Garbiang« (LARGE NUMBER OF HUMAN SKULLS … 1955), indicated as the village of »Garbyang« near (±1 km) N30°07'40”: E080°51'20" (AMS sheet NH44-06 Nanda Devi, U502 series, 1958 edition) at an elevation of 3145.5 m asl or »10,320 feet« (PRANAVANANDA 1949: 119) and about 400 m or 500 m above the western (orographically right) bank of the Mahakali (also: Kali, Byas, Vyas) River.
