Description
A man-made stepwell within the fortress at »Sheregurh« (Shergarh, Shahbad district) commences with »… two apertures with steps leading down to two subterranean apartments [compare –>Shergarh Dungeon]. The one is a Bauli [baoli], or well, entirely arched above, and consists of an octagon perhaps 12 feet [3.6 m] each side, with a window in each side, and surrounded by gallery 8 or 9 feet [2.4 m to 2.7 m] wide. The water is good but does not overflow, and what number of people it would supply I do not know.« (BUCHANAN [HAMILTON], F 1926: 109).
