Description
Either a stream cave, a tunnel cave or a sacred natural bridge or arch (unidentified dimensions): A torrent rushing down the mountain-side has encountered a rocky outcrop, and instead of cleaving it with a gorge has only pierced its lower portion, leaving a natural arch of stone (HAY 1928: 31). ETYMOLOGY: HAY (1928: 31) translates -Sarwai Gola- as Tunnel Rock (note 1).SITUATION: Somewhere on a certain Garriwam nala (HAY, W R 1928: 310 location map, 317) or Gariwam Algad (note 2), a tributary stream to the Dara Toi (note 3) in Waziristan, about 200 km along the road north of Zhob and not too far from the Afghanistan (Paktika province) border. CULTURAL HISTORY - religious folklore: … a natural curiosity … The tribesmen relate that this was a miracle performed by some holy man, possibly old Pre-Ghal himself, with a push of the hand, and treat the place with superstitious reverence, making little heaps of stones on the rocks in the valley below (HAY, W R 1928: 317).Either a stream cave, a tunnel cave or a sacred natural bridge or arch (unidentified dimensions): A torrent rushing down the mountain-side has encountered a rocky outcrop, and instead of cleaving it with a gorge has only pierced its lower portion, leaving a natural arch of stone (HAY 1928: 31).
