Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 01/05/2016

An unidentified vertical cave or pothole (Stingson Siangshai, Chiehruphi village headman 1997 personal communication). IDENTITY: Unknown. Compare: Krem –>Sapati. ETYMOLOGY: Unknown. The cave name Synrang Pati (Siangshai, S 1997) sounds as if it were a variant of the cave name Krem Sapati (Kharpran Daly, B D 2004). "ka synrang" (Khasi, noun) signifies not only »a coping of a rock or cave« (SINGH, N 1906: 216) or simply »a cave« (SINGH, N 1920: 63) but also »a nest« (BLAH, E 2007: 198) and what had been recorded as "pati" may be based on "pat" (note 1) combined with "ih" (note 2). SITUATION: Unknown. Somewhere in the vicinity of Lumshnong and near a village or, perhaps, on the banks of a stream of water called Ummyrsiang (Um Myrsiang) after a fox or jackal (note 3).
