Description
What looks like a suspicious place name »Kavi Bhimpur« (note 1) mentions KURIEN (1980: 183) while listing detached outcrops of exploitable limestone occurrences on the hill tops (note 2) between »Kavi Bhimpur N19°16': E079°32'« (note 3) and »Itiala N19°18': E079°35'« (note 4) in what KURIEN (1980: 183) considers (attention: humbug!) the »immediate north of Adilabad N19°15': E079°32'« (sic!) but actually lies at a linear distance of some 110 km approximately east-southeast from Adilabad (also: Edlabad) at N19°40': E078°32' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) on the AMS sheet NE44-01 Chanda (U502 series, 1959 edition) adjacent west. The –>Gangapur caves are found in the same area. HARI NARAIN (1987 figure 9) gives a tiny »Gravity and geology map of the Godavari Rift« (after QURESHY et al. 1968) where »Pakhal« --the proterozoic sediments of the Pakhal Group (SUBBA RAJU et al. 1978)-- and »Gondwana« occurs near N19°15': E079°30' (±10 km).
NOTE 1: "Kavi" could mean »cave« (well, mine, etc) and "pur" is a »village, town« while "Bhim" is one of the legendary cave dwelling Pandava brothers, who's story is told in the epic Mahabharata. NOTE 2: The limestone topped hills, perhaps 50 m in relative height, lie south of that Pedda Vagu, which joins near N19°12': E079°56' (WGS84) the Wainganga. NOTE 3: »Kavi Bhimpur« (KURIEN 1980: 183) appears to be identical with the »Karji Bhimpur« shown near N19°16': E079°32' on AMS sheet NE44-02 Sirpur (U502 series, 1963 edition). NOTE 4: »Itiala« (KURIEN 1980: 183) is indicated as »±493 [m asl] Itiala« near N19°16': E079°32' on AMS sheet NE44-02 Sirpur (U502 series, 1963 edition).
