Description
LATOUCHE, T H D (1883b: 200) mentions relatively large »funnel-shaped hollows« in the vicinity of Chiehruphi (note 1) where the exposed limestone »continues to a hill about 2 miles [3.2 km] east of Umrasiang [note 2], near the top of which nummulitic limestone forms a steep scarp to the north. This hill is flat topped, consisting of sandstones similar to those at Lakadong, but without any traces of coal till near the village of Nokhara [note 3]. In many places near Nokhara I noticed large funnel-shaped hollows, 30 or 40 feet [more likely: yards] deep, caused by underground denudation of the limestone. Proceeding to the north from Nokhara on the path to Satunga [note 4] after descending the limestone scarps to the north, a small outlier of limestone is passed near the village Umlupar« (note 5).
