One of the three legendary "caves" or inhabitable rock shelters at Mana (note 1). CULTURAL HISTORY - religious folklore: The rishi Vyas is said to have composed the 220'000 verses of the Indian epic Mahabharat in this Vyas Gufa at Mana near Badrinath (note 2). Compare –>Vyas Gufa, Badrycazram. The foliated rock surface, which is visible above the cave entrance, called Vyas Pustaka or sometimes Vyas Gita, is thought to resemble a book. Ganesh, the scribe of Vyas, is said to have lived in the nearby –>Ganesh Gufa (KAUR, J 1985: 170; SHARMA, M M 1994: 94, 133; SHIPTON, E 1939: 189). CAVE POTENTIAL: Compare –>Bhimpul, –>Ganesh Gufa, –>Garur Gufa, –>Muchukund Gufa and the Cave on the –>Saraswati Nadi.
