IAP KSEW 2 (Krem)

A steaming rift cave entrance eventually was found to give acces to Krem –>Shyien Khlieh. IDENTITY 1: Jospeh -Jo- or -Joe- Duxbury (in Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss) points out that this cave does not match description of Krem Iap Ksew (Dead Dog Cave) & is not far enough W to be Krem Ynram Blang renamed Nymrang Blang (note 1). IDENTITY 2: Quentin -Cooper- Cowper (in Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss) explains that Krem Iap Ksew is the rift that ends up at the eastern side (±30 m long) of the dog's breath pot-hole. ETYMOLOGY: No locally known name has been identified for this steaming rift cave entrance, which was nicknamed Dog Breath Cave (Brooks, S J et al. 2007.03.01 Mss) and Dog's Breath Cave (Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss), and eventually ended up as a Krem Iap Ksew 2.SITUATION 1 (Brooks, S J et al. 2007.03.01 Mss -Diary2007.doc- Wed 21st Feb): Somewhere near or, to be precise, in an unidentified spatial relation to Krem –>Iap Ksew. SITUATION 2 (Duxbury in Duxbury & Cowper 207.02.21 Mss): As for Krem Iap Ksew. Follow a bearing of 227° from single power pole [without GPS position]. Then further south in jungle to long wide rift with steam issuing from south end. POSITION 1: N25°20'44.5”: E92°29'53.5” (±17 m): 1124 m asl (WGS84, J. Duxbury 2007.02.21 GPS Garmin Etrex Summit)POSITION 2: N25°20'40.7”: 92°29' 53.5” WGS84 (unspecified precision error): 1143 m asl (Arbenz, T 2007.11.01 cave plan -Iapskew_plan_500.pdf- undated). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2007.1: An entrance without identified shape or dimensions, which faces an unidentified direction, drops into a series of pitches and a squeeze through to a stream way (perched water table) leading to more deep pitches, including blind shaft and a draughting shaft, which eventually connects to a survey station #105 in Krem Shyien Khlieh (after Brooks, S J et al. 2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2007.2: Wide (about 3 m) rift on bearing of 171°. Dry earth floor. S end leads into narrow canyon, crawlng at first, opening to walking height. Pools of standing water. At junction after about 50 m, the canyon becomes narrower. General direction 171° (Duxbury in: Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2007.3: The first series of pitches follows ending in a 24 m pitch (aven), after a squeeze here and some pleasant enough vertical caving and passing over a 5 m deep pot the second deeper set of pitches are encountered for which the second half has to be traversed over 2 blind pots that leads to the final drops that tie into #105 survey point in Shyien Khlieh cave (Cowper in Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2007.4: Either in Krem –>Iap Ksew (Dead Dog Cave) or in one Dog Breath Cave (Krem –>Iap Ksew 2), there is a 10 m pitch into some 50 m of ongoing canyon passage. Obviously in Krem Iap Ksew 2 a pot can be dropped, a squeeze pushed, and a streamway followed to more deep pitches and there is one -Three Rats Passage- with particularly active and apparently -cuddl” residents. JARRATT & DAWSON (2007: Sunday 25th February 2007.02.25) clearly explain how Quentin, Ian and Mark T. went to Krem Iap Ksew 2 and failed to descend the last shaft due to blind shafts within the shaft, before locating a 15 m draughting shaft (JARRATT & DAWSON 2007). TACKLE: 10 m rope to descend entrance rift (Duxbury in: Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss): CAVE POTENTIAL: Steaming behaviour suggests connection with larger system while the cave direction is towards end of Krem Labit (Duxbury in: Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss). CAVE CLIMATE: In the face of the entrance rift, Duxbury (in: Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss) noticed steam issuing from the south end and Cowper (in: Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss) surprises with completing 21 Feb. 2007, about 2pm, sunny day. CAVE LIFE: Duxbury (in Duxbury & Cowper 2007.02.21 Mss) lists spiders, frogs. JARRATT & DAWSON (2007) mention a certain 3 Rats Passage -- complete with it's particularly active [2007.02.23] and apparently -cddly” residents (Rodentia: conf. Rattus var.).ddly” residents (Rodentia: conf. Rattus var.).
