Description
A suspicious place name apparently hinting at a cave but this is probably the –>Pedda Ahobilam 8 km along the road further east and 350 m higher up. ETYMOLOGY: The place name "Chinna Ahobilam" appears to mean »Lower Grand Cave« as "chinna" (Telugu) means »small, young, low« (etc.), "aho" (Sanskrit) means »big, great, large« and "bilam" is one of the Sanskrit words for a cave. HYDROGRAPHY: »The water of the Balugram spring (15°9': 78°41') … supplies water to Chinna Ahobilam (15°8': 78°41')« (DUTT, N V B S 1955: 122).
