Description
A temple inside a sacred cave (note 1) of dubious nature. SITUATION: Somewhere at an unspecified distance on the 18 km long road from Haridwar (note 2) to Rishikesh. CAVE DESCRIPTION: Mircea ELIADE (1996: 316-317; 1998: 316-317) noticed a red painted entrance, a basin (probably a pool of water) cut from the rock (note 3) and fed from hill springs and a black stone lingam, the erotic symbol of Shiva, decorated with slightly nonsensical jasmin garlands made from rose petals donated by women, who wash themselves at the temple's entrance: Der zweite [see: Cave at –>Hardwar , Eliade 1996: 116] ist von seltener Beschaulichkeit: ein rot gestrichener Höhleneingang und ein in den Fels gehauenes Bassin, das sein Wasser von Bergquellen erhält. Man kann sehr gut Shivas Symbol aus schwarzem Stein erkennen, dieses erotische Symbol zwischen Jasmingirlanden aus Rosenblättern, den Opfergaben der Frauen, die sich am Tempeleinang waschen.ang waschen.
