Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 15/05/2016

So-called »broad rock caves« is possibly one rock shelter, which is situated high above the western (right) bank of Alaknanda river in the vicinity of the temple dedicated to Ansuya Devi (note 1), shows KAUR, J (1985, colour photograph opposite page 118): »Rudranath Bugyals [note 2] still offer the cave man's experience where a trekker finds shelter in the broad rock caves situated amidst the vast meadow-scape leading to Hindus' another Kedar: Rudranath.« See also –>Rudranath Gufa.

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 15/05/2016

NOTE 1: Ansuya, also Anusiya, mother of Dattatreya, by some Hindus (SIKANDER 2003). NOTE 2: "bugyal" is a »high altitude meadow« (LONELY PLANET, India 2005: 1106; 2009: 1208) used as a »grazing alp« (TILMAN, Harold William 1937: 48). ARYA, Trilochan (1993: 111) confirms that »mountain slopes contain grassy meadows known as 'Bugyals' best for the grazing.«
