A »rock shelter« (or cave?) with rock art (Jayaswal, Vidula in: Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1980-81 / 1983: 72; JAYASWAL, Vidula 1983). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for two »rock-shelters« (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1980-81 / 1983: 72) or rock shelters (rockshelter) called after the name of the village of Laharia-Dih (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1980-81 / 1983: 72) or Lahariadih (Survey of India 1984 toposheet 63-L). SITUATION: In an unspecified setting (note 1) »in the vicinity of the village Lahariah-Dih« (IAR 1980-81 / 1983: 72) and at an unidentified location which lies not only in anunspecified statial relation to the –>Lahariahdih rock shelter 2 but also to the village of Lahariadih (note 2) south-east of of Drummondganj (note 3). CULTURAL HISTORY -- archaeology: »The entire deposit in Rock-shelter 1 is divisible into three layers, the latest one (thickness 10 to 20 cm) yielding both wheel-made and hand made pottery along with microliths and bladelets. The preceeding layer (thickness 45 to 60 cm) is dominated by vladelets, both geometric (triangle) and non-geometric (lunate and backed bladelet). Hand made and worn out pottery became scarce at the lower levels. The earliiest level was found overlying the bed rock and was devoid of pottery and geometric forms of microliths though non-geometric forms on bladelets continued« (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1980-81 / 1983: 72).
