A sacred but otherwise unspecified (natural or man-made) »cave looking like two jaws« advertises the tourist information leaflet KORAPUT (1989: 7) from a Devagiri (god's hill) that »rises to a height of 120.2 metres [335 feet]. Unlike other hills it is not narrower upwards. The top of the hill is a flat platform of rectangular plain which can be approached only from the northern side. The steps are rough and one can climb by crawling. […] At the top, there are perennial pools of water called Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Bhargavi and Indradyumna. There is a cave looking like two jaws. The Shiva lingam is enshrined at the meeting point of the jaws.« IDENTITY: Compare –>Niamraja's Cave. SITUATION: The »Devagiri (Natural Steps)« (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006: 87 H5) at an elevation of »2116« (AMS sheet NE44-04 Bhawanipatna, U502 series, 1959 edition) or 645 m asl lies at a linear distance of about 8 or 10 km due north of »Kalyanasinghpur« or »Kalyansingapuram« (note 1) and on the way north via the village of Bijepur (note 2) to the small town of Bhawanipatna (N19°54': E83°10'). APPROACH: Kalyansingapuram is reached by travelling altogether »27 miles« (43.5 km) north from »Rayagarha« (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006: 96 D1) or »Rayagada« (N19°10': E83°25' nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) to Komatlapeta (N19°15': E83°25'), where one has to turn left (east) to proceed upstream along the Nagavali river and via the village of Sikarapai / Sikarapei (N19°25': E83°20') to Kalyansingapuram.
