Description
A 38.6 m deep pothole and a cave called Thloo Moopsin 2 of unknown dimensions lies in unspecified spatial relations to Thlu Mupsin 1 or Thlu Mupsin 3 and at a difficult to reconstruct location (note 1). The second Thlu Mupsin is said to descend to a passage of unidentified nature, direction and dimensions (Brooks, S J et al. 2005.02.20: Meghalaya 2005 Diary) which contains speleothems of unknown character and dimensions (Jarratt 2005.03.06 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XII, 19/2/05). SITUATION (Jarratt 2005.03.06 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XII, 19/2/05): In February 2002 the cave entrance had been seen surrounded by jungle but two later was shown at an unspecified location somewhere in a large area of cleared and cultivated ground reached by a path from the Shaktiman track to the Letein [Litang, also: Litien] valley. CAVE DESCRIPTION 1 (Jarratt 2005.03.06 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XII, 19/2/05) narrates how this cave was descended for 36.6 m to a few metres of decorated horizontal passages but no way on. CAE DESCRIPTION 2 (Brooks, S J et al. 2005.02.20 Mss: Meghalaya 2005 Diary): A 36 m shaft to a passage that ended after 70 m. CAVE DESCRIPTION 3 (Brooks 2005.10.05 Mss: Meghalaya 2005 Survey Summary): 20.02.05 Shnongrim ARJ, PL, RH Total 2005 Survey 103.70 Vertical Range 38.65. CAVE DESCRIPTION 4 (Rainer Hoss and Peter Ludwig in: Arbenz, T 2005.02.05 Mss: Thloo Moopsin 2): 20.02.05, hoss, ludwig, Total: 109.37 m, Alt± : 38.65 (-38.65, 0.00). PROSPECTS: Jarratt (2005.03.06 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XII, 19/2/05) did a short recce on the surface locating two more pots in the next cleared doline to the east and the blocked stream sink of Thloo Moopsin 3 in the cleared doline to the west. Other nearby dolines [without GPS positions] visited yielded no new caves.A 38.6 m deep pothole and a cave called Thloo Moopsin 2 of unknown dimensions lies in unspecified spatial relations to Thlu Mupsin 1 or Thlu Mupsin 3 and at a difficult to reconstruct location (note 1). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2002.04.11: An unidentified informant (no name mentioned) told Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt the cave name Thloo Moopsin. 2005.02.20: Anthony 'Tony' R. Jarratt (2005.03.06 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XII, 19/2/05), Peter Ludwig, Rainer Hoss and Gregory 'Greg' Diengdoh: … were dropped off in the Mahindra to check out this pot left unexplored from 2002. Three local kids guided us to the once jungle surrounded entrance … Peter rigged the shaft to the entertainment of the villagers and descended for 36.6 m to a few metres of decorated horizontal passages but no way on. He and Rainer surveyed the cave while I did a short recce on the surface locating two more pots in the next cleared doline to the east and the blocked stream sink of Thloo Moopsin 3 in the cleared doline to the west. Other nearby dolines visited yielded no new caves. We left the pot bashers to possibly rig the new shafts and walked back to camp via the Um Thloo 2 monoliths and the V-shaped Krem Ryman monliths. This was a surprisingly easy route and quite pleasant in the cooler [overcast?] condition. Tea and biscuits at camp was very welcome. Brooks, Simon J. (Brooks 2005 Mss: Meghalaya Diary) agrees: Jrat, Gregory, Peter and Rainer went to Thloo Moopsin 2. Peter and Rainer rigged a 36 m shaft to a passage that ended after 70 m.
