Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A cavern into which drips water highly charged with sulphuric acid. This cavern is about 4 metres in breadth, at its mouth 1.5 metres high and about 4.5 metres in depth from the entrance to the back part. The floor consists of projections of calcareous matter mixed with sulphur, and cavities or pools of water about 1.2 metres deep, transparent and highly charged with sulphur. Hot sulphurous vapour issues through numerous holes in the floor [note 1]. … The sides of the cavern were formed by calcareous matter and flour of sulphur, in some places straw colour, in others of a deep brimstone hue. The proportion of brimstone [travertine / calcareous tufa] to the other material is nearly two to one. The side is so soft that it may be scooped off by the hand, and is a little moist. … Immediately in front of the mouth of the cavern, and forming as it were its threshold, is a mound of calcareous stone [note 2], through chinks of which spring many jets of hot water perfectly transparent, and of smell and taste very similar to that of Harrowgate [Harrogate] (MOORCROFT 1815, 1816 edited 1818: 549, 1937, 1987). SITUATION: Opposite to the village (note 3) of Chinlung MOORCROFT (1815, 1816 edited 1818: 549, 1937, 1987) Khyunglung MOORCROFT (1815, 1816 edited 1818: 549, 1937, 1987) Kien-lung MOORCROFT (1815, 1816 edited 1818: 549, 1937, 1987) Kienglung MOORCROFT (1815, 1816 edited 1818: 549, 1937, 1987) Kyunglung India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: H7). smell and taste very similar to that of Harrowgate [Harrogate] (MOORCROFT 1815, 1816 edited 1818: 549, 1937, 1987).
