Description
»Extensive subterranean dwellings [tahkhana] with windows opening into the great ditch« and an underground apartments into which the zamindar's family (note 1) resorted during the intensity of the hot monsoon, reported HAMILTON, W (1828, 1: 630) from the Fort of Hathras (note 2) in Aligarh: »The fort is oblong … the ditch is 40 m wide and 26 m deep, and the body of the place 120 or 150 m in compass.«
