LAKSHMAN BANGALA

Description
A rectangular chamber (2.85 by 2.55 by 1.05 m) cut in the rock reported BALL (1873b: 246) from –>Ramgarh Pahar and the south-east corner of the spur near –>Hathipol where … high up on the face of sandstone … much less easily accessible than the others [–>Sitabenga, –>Jogimara], and to get to it over the rocks one has to use both hands and feet. A portion only of the side of the entrance remains standing. I saw no sign of any inscription near it. ETYMOLOGY: Little doubt remains that Lakshman Bangala (BALL 1873b: 246) is an ironic version of Lakshman's -bungalow“ being on one story and covered by a pyramidical roof … Most of the houses of officers … are of this character (YULE & BURNELL 1886 edited by CROOKE 1903: 128).
