Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A closed depression (doline, unspecified dimensions, unidentified shape) descends down to a southwest facing cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified characteristics) and leads northeast to less than 50 m of enterable cave passage, which was found to descend at an angle of 20°. The penetrable part of the cave passage is lavishly decorated with relatively gigantic boulders (mostly arenaceous or of sandstone) but unspoiled by usual pomp of secondary mineral formations. A blind shaft in the far northeast corner descends 6 m down (note 1). ETYMOLOGY: A certain Kyrshiu or, perhaps, Kyrshiew with an unidentified surname, who was from Lumshnong and was interpreted by Neville Sootinck from Shillong, suggested a cave name which was recorded as Krem Omotha (Scherzer, H 2015.04.01 Mss -Tagebuch- Fr. 16.01.2015) but is difficult to reconstruct and, perhaps, based on -um- (water) combined with something along the lines of otha, ootha, u tha, utha, etc. SITUATION: Inan unspecified setting at a location with a GPS position which indicates a spot east of the National Highway NH44 and lies, on the one-hand side, above the orographically left (northern) bank of a tributary flowing east to the orographically right (locally western) bank of the Um Lunar but, on the other hand, below what had been in the 1990s the usual path towards Sielkan (±250 m 25°11'47”N: 92°27'12”E: 480 m).an unspecified setting at a location with a GPS position which indicates a spot east of the National Highway NH44 and lies, on the one-hand side, above the orographically left (northern) bank of a tributary flowing east to the orographically right (locally western) bank of the Um Lunar but, on the other hand, below what had been in the 1990s the usual path towards Sielkan (±250 m 25°11'47”N: 92°27'12”E: 480 m).
