Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

Three different cave entrances beneath a solitary, gravitationally dislocated slab of greenschist give access to a relatively large, sacred cave chamber (covering about 40 square metre) used as a temple cave. SITUATION: A zigzagging path descends steeply from the first –>Tse Chug Phu downhill to the site. CAVE DESCRIPTION: A small entrance (0.6 m wide, 1.2 m high) in the north-west and a larger entrance (5 m by 1.3 m) in the south-east gives access to the main chamber (6 m wide, 4 m high, 12 m long, 150°). A climb down from the deepest point (in the north-west) of the chamber leads by a small passage to the south-east to the third entrance. CAVE POTENTIAL - Outlook: A few metre could be added to the survey by a dedicated mapper. CAVE LIFE: Bats (Chiroptera) with a body length of estimated 7 or 8 cm had sprinkled some bat guano on the floor (Harald Kirsamer 2001.02.04 personal communication).

Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1848.12.30: A. CAMPBELL (1849: 535) noticed somewhere north of Tassiding (village) unspecified rocky crevices emitting comparatively warm air but no sacred cave. 2001.02.01: Harald 'Harry' Kirsamer (2001.02.07 Mss) and Anette Scherzer read and recorded a GPS position near the entrance, mapped 48.6 m of cave passages, and performed a peculiar offering rite by sacrificing a flash light (electric torch).
