SILI GAD SINK & SPRING

Description
Just like the –>Kanda Sink & Resurgence (note 1), where the »water does not follow line of nullah but cuts across a bend underground«, there is another sink - resurgence system »according to [Survey of India One Inch Series sheet] 53-F/13 similarly to Sili Gad (31°56' / 77°55')« (Glennie 1942.10.05-19 Mss: Diary, 16th October 1942). SITUATION: One problem is the coordinates, which Glennie recorded for Sili Gad, indicate an unlikely location beyond Glennie's horizon, namely high up in the Central Himalaya and among the glaciers north-west of the sources of Ganga River. The other problem is that the Survey of India sheet 53-F/13 recommended by Glennie covers the area between N30°45': E77°45' to N31°00': E78°00' but his coordinates fall on sheet 53-E/13 and a full grade north. Personally I surmise that Glennie's coordinates for the Sili Gad sink need shifting -- but this is mere guesswork -- by one grade south to N30°56': E77°55' (Survey of India sheet 53-F/13) and thus to a spot which lies 26 km in a direct line north-north-east of Chakrata (N30°42': E77°51) and 23 km approximately north-east of the Budher Forest Rest House (N30°45'45”: E77°47'20” (Everest 1830): 2524 m asl (Survey of India Forest Map, Four Inch to a Mile series, sheet: 53-F/13 S2, circa 1940 edition).
NOTE 1: Resurgence: »Type of spring [point where underground water emerges on to the surface] fed at least partly by sinking streams whose water is thus returning to daylight, as opposed to exsurgences fed only by percolation water« (LOWE & WALTHAM 1995: 30).
