Km 44 CAVE

A seasonal spring of water issues from a square-shaped, southwest-facing cave entrance (about 1.2 m wide and 1.7 m high, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) which gives access to a solitary cave passage, which is formed in an unidentified kind of rock represented by solid mineral material forming part of the surface of the earth and leads after a lengthwise measured distance of 34.5 m to a pool of water and sump beyond which the expeditiously unexplored part of the cave was said to continue as a relatively low wet crawl (Arbenz, T 2014.12.25 Meghalaya cave record: Urs Wälchli 2014.02.23 km 44 Cave.doc). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified, if it exists, for what was initially dubbed Km44 Cave (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss) and later disguised as a Pseudokhasi half-breed christened Krem km 44 (Anonymous 2014.04.05 Expedition Survey Log 2014 (8-3-2014).xls). SETTING 2014.04.25: The GPS position recorded forthe entrance to the so-called km 44 Cave indicates a spot which lies a) about 2 km in a direct line due east of Borghat (N25°40': E092°40) b) above the banks of a stream which joins (near ±250 m N25°09°22”: E092°13'38” WGS84) the orographically left (locally east) bank of the Myntdu (Hari Nala, Hari River, etc.), c) about 125 m in a direct line approximately NNE (105 m north, 67 m east) from the GPS position recorded for the so-called –>Km 44.5 Cave. SITUATION 2014.04.05: On one or the other the side of the road between [the village of] Lama and [an unspecified crossroad with unidentified GPS position, which was simply referred to as] Lad Lakadong (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 23rd February, Sunday). SITUATION 2014.12.25: In a kind of cliff (with an unidentified size and orientation), which was not only understood to expose an unidentified mineral material but also to lie more or less near the kilometre stone 44 (with an unidentifid GPS position) and on one or the other side of the road from Borghat (±1 km N25°09'40”: E092°13'40”) to the village of Lama (note 1). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.04.05: The cave is a small seasonal resurgence, which after 34 metres ends in [sic! qua: is locally known to continue in a low wet crawl but on 23rd February 2014 was left speleologically unsurveyed beyond] a sump (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 23rd February, Sunday). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.12.25: A square-shaped, southwest-facing cave entrance (about 1.2 m wide and 1.7 m high) at road level gives access to a seasonal resurgence cave, which is initially represented by single cave passage (about 2 m wide and high) which contains not only a relatively small number of of unspecified stalactites (speleothems) but also leads after lengthwise measured distance of 34.5m to an unexplored pool and sump beyond which the cave continues in an unknown way (note 2).
