Description
A flight of steps is said to descend into a dark cave with a noteworthy echo (keyword: accoustic phenomenon) and to give access to a fabulous tunnel to Mysore (N12°18'26”: E076°38'59” WGS84; about 220 km in a direct line north-northeast). ETYMOLOGY: Me not know. HAMILTON, W (1828, 2: 296) mentions no -Gori- but reports from the Neelgherry Mountains that one of the highest peaks is named Moorehoorti Bet and has been estimated at 8,800 feet [2682 m] above the ocean. SITUATION: In a unidentified temple or temple compound situated somewhere on Doda Betta or Doddabetta (note 1), the tallest mountain in the Nilgiri range (note 2). CULTURAL HISTORY - human fabrication: A person coming for translation work was telling me that he went to a temple near Doddabetta, and there is a dark cave going inside with steps. He was telling me, if he say Hello, could listen several echos. People claim it has a sacret passage to Mysore! Its name is Gori cave (A. D. Edward Raj 2005.01.24 personal correspodence).dence).
