This Akkanagamma is one of the small caves (note 1) of unspecified nature and characteristics in an unspecified host rock (limestone). SITUATION: Yadava, M (2002 Mss Thesis, chapter 4.3.1, page 95) places Akkanagamma at an unspecified location somewhere In the Ulvi village [N15°00'30”: E74°31'30” in Supa] of the Joida taluk (Joida, town near N15°09': E74°29'). APPROACH: The cave entrance is said to be reached If we walk a little distance (HIREMATH 1983: 5) in an unidentified direction -- probably from the Channabasavanna temple at Ulvi. POSITION 2007: (unspecified precision error) N14°59'47.2”: E74°31'50.5”: 460 m asl (WGS84, Matthalm, T 2007.02.01estimation and GPS). POSITION 2008: (as if as if ±0.3 m) N14°59'49.08”: E74°31'52.35” (WGS84, Matthalm, T. 2008 April, estimation after Google Earth). CULTURAL HISTORY: This cave is associated with (sacred to?) Akkanagamma (note 2) or Akka Nagamma (note 3) the mother of Channabasavanna, nephew of Basaveshwara. A cave which bers the blessed name of the great dedicated devotee, Akka Nagamma, sister of The Lord Treasurer of Devotion Basavanna and mother of the truely enlighted Channbasavanna, the Exponent of the Six-Fold System of Virashaiva philosophy.
