MALO 2 (Caves dubbed)

Description
Six or seven relatively low cave entrances (about a metre wide and half a metre high) were only superficially looked at but gave the impression of leading to more or less penetrable cave passages, which were interpreted as "old high level resurgences" for Krem –>Malo (Antony 'Tony' Boycott and Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt 1999 February personal communication). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for the lot these cave entrances, which were collectively dubbed »Malo 2« due to their close proximity to Krem –>Malo. The cave entrance's low but wide nature suggests to consider rather the Khasi word "par" (note 1) or another Khasi word for »to crawl« (note 2) than to apply the noun "ka maloi" which signifies not only »a cocoa-nut shell« but also »anything that looks like a half sphere« (SINGH, N 1906: 128).SITUATION: At one place or another in what had been in spring 1999 a relatively "new quarry" (Boycott, Jarratt & Fischer 1999 personal communication) somewhere south-east of the Lumshnong Soil Conservation Bungalow. APPROACH: Reached by taking the first Shaktiman track to »the left« (Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt 1999 February personal communication) or, more likely, east. CAVE POTENTIAL - prospects: A certain »entrance 2« and one »entrance 3« can be pushed by a determined caver. Compare with the so-called –>Kaimen From Founder Cave.
