History:-- .. The main parts of Tham Pageo were explored by the Amis Laos 2000 expedition and no traces of earlier explorers were found [5158] Explo history: >>> exploration history: -- 22-24.11.2000 explored and surveyed to 1550 m by Amis Laos Expedition 2000 (NL) [5158] -- 14.03.2003 visited by H. Steiner Cave description: Citation: Analysis: [5158]: The entrance and the subsequent 100 metres of phreatic passage are pretty low – about one metre high only, filled with a thick layer of mud that is cut by the periodically active bed of a small stream. After a U-turn the passage becomes higher and one can walk upright for the next 200 metres, except for two short crawls. The entrance passage ends in a junction room. The main way on is a muddy and wet duck with low air space. Other passages branch off and lead to nicely decorated higher chambers. Behind the duck the cave divides into an East/Northeast section and another branch that heads in westerly direction. The latter part of the cave is reached about 100 m behind the duck when climbing up to an unattractive muddy passage, which leads to the top of a chamber. To the left a crawl continues for about 10 metres until the passage reaches the top of a near-to-vertical climb that requires a short rope. At the bottom of the climb a muddy passage continues that quickly opens into a large and very pretty stream passage. This continues for about 150 metres and ends in a sump that connects to Tham Khan. Two adjacent muddy chambers with no continua-tion are located to the right of the sump. The east/northeast section of Tham Pageo starts with a large decorated passage of walking size. After 300 metres a small chamber with a pool is reached. Beyond the pool a small hole provides access to a large passage which continues for another 45 metres until it splits into two parallel galleries that re-join in a high canyon passage. This passage abruptly ends after about 180 metres. Right before one reaches the end of the canyon passage a small, well decorated gallery to the right can be found. Mud and water are abundant and reliable equipment is required. A rope is recommended for some short climbs. Most of the calcite formations are still bright white and one should take extra care when visiting these areas of Tham Pageo >> survey >> shown in map [5128]: >> survey >> shown in map [10281]: fauna record Equipment: Remarks:Length & UTM for both Tham Khan/Tham Pageo 2070m [5128] --depth: -14,2/9,1 Pos korrigiert, war mitten im Fluß, zuweit weg von Tham Pageo 2 References: [4846]: Dreybrodt, J. & Laumanns, M. 2003: Der unbekannte Norden von Laos - Ergebnisse eines Erkundungsprojekts.
