Description
An unspecified cave entrance was said to give access to an unidentified cave (Kyrmen 'Hope' C Hiwot Passah 1997.02.28 personal communication with a tea-shop owner on the road). ETYMOLOGY: The origin of the cave name »Krem Ummyrsiang« was not identified but seems to be called after an "um" or stream of water renowned for one or the other fox or jackal (note 1). SITUATION 1997: Somewhere »near« the playing field north of the Lumshnong church (Kyrmen 'Hope' C Hiwot Passah 1997.02.28 personal communication with a tea-shop owner on the road). SITUATION 1998: Alfred Lanong from Lumshnong (1999.02.22 personal communication) suspected that this cave is rather in the vicinity of the populated place called »Ummyrchian« or Ummyrsiang, which lies in the Chiehruphi (25°12'36”N: 92°22'22”E) - Musianglamare (25°13'20”N: 92°21'30”E) area and can be reached by walking from the Lumshnong church northwards and past the playing field.
NOTE 1: "u myrsiang" (Khasi; noun), not only a »fox« (SINGH, N 1906: 136; SINGH, N 1920: 191; BLAH, E 2007: 110) but also a »jackal« (SINGH, N 1906: 136; SINGH, N 1920: 275; BLAH, E 2007: 156).
