Location

Turn off the Salwa Road at the interchange for the satellite ground station and keep heading west on the side road for 700m to a turning north. Follow this road north, past a farm on the left, for 3.75km to where an electricity transmission line crosses the road. From here the route is vague and a 4WD vehicle is recommended. Follow the transmission line east for 1.35km and the cave is then 350m to the north-west. The entrance is surrounded by a fence and is only 100m south of Qatar's largest rubbish dump. The collapse entrance is 12m by 4.5m and opens onto a slope of boulders that descend steeply to a sand choke. The cave has a surveyed length of 78m and a depth of 36m. Didier Borg - 11/04/2019

Other names: Musfer Sinkhole, Dahl al Misfer, Light Cave, Dahal as Sifar Surveyed by Ellis, Laurentzius and Sehested, October 2004, Grade UISv2 3-3-F The cave reaches the Lower Damman Unit and Rus Formation gypsum layers below the dolomite and limestone. Small gypsum formations were seen on the walls at the bottom of the cave. Sadiq & Nasir suspected that it is part of a much larger cave system, but it is convincingly choked at the bottom without any draught. Lorimer (1908), under the name Dahal-as-Sifar, 17 miles west of Doha, described the cave as "here also is a pool in a cave at the foot of a low hill".
