Description
The unspecified entrance was said to give access to an unidentified cave (Kaimen C. Hiwot Passah, K C, Jowai, 1997 personal communication). IDENTITY: Unknown. It is not impossible that the Krem Umsynrem near Lumshnong (Passah 1997)) is the same as Krem Umkhlot (25°11'27”N: 92°22'30”E) Krem –>Ummyrsiang / Ummyrchiang, or Krem –>Umtyongai. ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi cave name "Krem Umsynrem" signifies a cave on a stream (of water) which is rather specified by a growth of "u synrem" (SINGH, N 1906: 217) or, to be precise, by "u dieng synrem" (note 1), »a kind of stinging nettle« (SINGH, N 1906: 217), than specified by an involvement of "(ka kur) Synrem", the name of »a clan in the Cherra State« (GURDON, P R T 1906: 217 no. 92). SITUATION: Unknown. At an unspecified location somewhere in the vicinity of the playing field at the village of Lumshnong and, apparently, at about halfway between the "village well" entrance to Krem –>Kotsati (±34 m 25°10'46”N: 92°22'29”E) and the entrance to Krem –>Umshor (±100 m 25°10'37”N: 92°22'18”E).
NOTE 1: u dieng synrem, botanically: Dendrocnide sinuata Jungh 1851: 29, is a shrub with branches greenish white, clothed with stinging hairs; leaves 15-35 x 7-15 cm, ovate, broadly elliptic, acuminate, base rounded or cordate, upper half usually crenate or serrate; panicles 3-5 cm across; urticles white, ca. 0.3 cm across, inflexed (HARIDASAN & RAO 1985: 843-844).
