Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

What appears to represent a closed depression (collapse doline, collapse sinkhole), which is suspected to have been the setting for a tradition of pit sacrifices in pagan religion, has been reported from from a place called Arang Patal (MARAK2000: 59) or Areng Patal (DIRECTOR s.a. circa 2003; GUPTA & SHARMA s.a. circa 2004). Compare –>Balphakram Tunnel Shaped Hollow and –>Wakkabe Underground Stream. SITUATION: At an unknown location. MARAK (2000: 59) tells us, literally quoted, that this place is the plateau formed on the river source of Moheshkola (note 1). GUPTA & SHARMA (s.a. circa 2004 ±2) mention Areng Patal in connection with interesting sites that reflect the uniqueness of … the Balphakram National Park and place Chimitap village (note 2) somehow close to this site (note 3). CRATER DESCRIPTION: According to MARAK (2000: 59), there is some evidence [sic! more likely: untenable speculation] of volcanic eruptions in this place and some hollow crater formation are seen. One will alo find some layer [sic!] in the area. HOLLOW DESCRIPTION: According to DIRECTOR (s.a. circa 2003), Areng Patal … is a massive rock with a hollow space on its surface that is believed to have powerful magnetic [read: attractive] powers. This hollow space acts as a veritable death trap to any bird or animal (except for man of course) that goes near it. Any living being that goes near it is magnetically drawn towards this hollow from where it can never come out and dies eventually (note 4). HOLLOW SPACE DESCRIPTION: According to GUPTA & SHARMA (s.a. circa 2004 ±2), Areng patal (Magnetic stone): This massive rock with a hollow space on its surface has a property of a very strong magnetic force. Animals or birds that inadvertently wander close to the rock get magnetically drawn towards the hollow. Once drawn, these are not able to come out and eventually die. This magnetic force however has no effect on humans.
