GAWARGIN, Sarikol Nala (Cave at)

Description
A staircase cut inside the rock, descending from the highest point down no one knows where. The chief of the place told me he had been down seventy steps. He expects to find great treasures at the bottom (TALBOT 1886a: 331). The situation is a riddle: At Gáwargin (note 1) or Gabargar (TALBOT 1886a: 331), an old fort (note 2), which is said to lie some 65 km (35 plus 6 miles) from a certain Chahilburj (note 3) on a road (route?) to Balkh along the river Band-i- Amir, which, further downstream (Talbot says -higher up-), becomes the river Balkh.A staircase cut inside the rock, descending from the highest point down no one knows where.
