RATNAGIRI FORT SEA CAVE

A sea cave in basalt, apparently complete with a stygian / aphotic / dark zone, has formed at the base of the promontory on which Ratnadurga (note 1), the fort of Ratnagiri (note 2), stands surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides on the Konkan Coast. A photograph without scale (note 3), which was taken at an unspecified time on an unidentified day by a teacher Mahesh shows the structure of the rock which can be interpreted to indicate that the wave-cut cave has formed and, for that matter, still develops where two mutually intersecting tectonical disturbences meet near the level of the tidal zone.
