Location
Take Highway 41 south from Chumphon Town for about 30km. When you see the Chumphon Horticulture Research Center (10.330363, 99.092943) on the right take the next u-turn. Head north about 500m and take the first road to the left. Take this road for 15km till you reach a cross roads. At the cross roads turn left and follow this road for 4 km, where you will see the entrance to the cave/Wat on the right. A 1km concrete road takes you right up to the cave entrance.
Description
It is a through cave with a stream, however when we visited during the rainy season (September) the stream was dry. The entrance of the cave is very large and this area has been made into a place of worship. Some 25m into the the cave it narrows and here the Monks have constructed a doorway. You have to ask them to unlock it if venturing further. There is also lighting installed but when we visited all bulbs bar one had blow so bring good a torch. After the doorway the cave is a narrow tunnel. Here we found many bats. Warning - The part of the cave pass the doorway is extremely slippery. The monks have concreted the floor and with the dark damp conditions a lot of algae has grown. This with bat droppings makes a hazardous passage. I wanted to walk the full length of the cave (100m) but only got 20m before I slipped over. If this is a through cave it will be at least 200m long.
