Description
A natural sacred rock shelter (temple cave) with what seems to be a physically penetrable but culturally impenetrable hole down to water reported Martin Butterworth (1998.05.06 personal correspondence) from Ramdi (where the Kali Gandaki crosses the Butwal - Pokhara road [Siddharta Highway]). A local guidebook talks about a -very deep- cave there. It is a Hindu temple site in the cliff of the Kali Gandaki gorge, 83°38' E, 27°53'N. A rock undercut has a hole at the back through which I could hear running water. A small stream resurges below the temple. The Saddhus wouldn't let me shine a lamp down the hole but it was about 50 cm in diameter and sounded about 2 m deep to water. IDENTITY: Compare the Shree –>Siddha Gufa, Ramdi (ADHIKARI, H 2011). SITUATION: Ramdi near N27°53': E83°38' (Butterworth 1998.05.06 Mss) is indicated near N27°54': E83°38' (unknown geodetic datum) on the Central Service Map sheets 39 Syangja (1989 edition) and 47 Palpa (1989 edition).

EXPLORATION HISTORY: Martin Butterworth (1998.05.06 Mss) had visited the daylight-lit part of the Patale Ganga temple cave up to a point where a fearful saddhu (without any doubt destined to be reborn about 108 thousand times as a black coloured louse) ruthlessly exploited Martin's decency and spoiled his impulse to push a descending squeeze to audibly running water.
