A man-made stepwell or well with flights of steps descending to the water (SMITH, G 1882: 296) and fine baoli (LONELY PLANET, India 1990: 499; 1993: 648; 1997: 707; 2001: 640; 2003: 654) with underground chamber (BROSSET, A 1962a: 11). ETYMOLOGY: SMITH, G (1882) translates -Naulakhi Baori- as Nine Lakhs Well (£90,000) (note 1).
