A »rock-cut cave of the sage Parasar, whose name the Karvir Mahatmya associates with several objects of interest on Panhala hill« (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 19: 397) is situated »south of the fort« Panhala (note 1).
NOTE 1: Panhala N16°49': E74°07' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003 on AMS sheet NE43-14 Kolhapur) or near N16°48': E74°08' (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 19: 396): »The uplands are 2,772 feet [845 m] above the sea and about 700 feet [213 m] above the Kolhapur plain, and the hill-top crowned by the Panhala fort rises about 275 feet [85 m] above the uplands.«
