A modified natural cave (or rock shelter?) used as a troglodyte hermitage somewhere above (and opposite ?) of Rishikesh (note 1) is reached (TIETKE 2001.09.29) by ascending south of the Lakshman Jhoola (note 2), initially along a dry riverbed and later through thickets with noisy canary birds and long tailed monkeys. An iron grid gates the cave entrance to the cave noted for relics of sculptures made by Rose Schmitt (born 1936), a German Hindu student, who lived here from 1966 onwards for more than 20 years. CAVE POTENTIAL: OLDHAM, R D (1884: 161) had come across some beds of limestone exposed to the north of Latchman Jhula in the bed of the Ganges.
