Description
A pair of possibly disputable »sinkholes« (compare –>Dhabadi Sinkhole and –>Parsadih Sinkhole) in Precambrian (Proterozoic) Chattisgarh Limestone a kilometer north-west of the village of Kesdabri (note 1) describes MURTI (1972: 59) to have a »circular in outline having a diameter of up to three metres. These are steep-sided and extend to a depth of about three metres. It is connected to an adjacent sinkhole of the same size by subterranean channel giving the impression of an Uvala« (note 2).
NOTE 1: Kesdabri N21°43': E082°11' (MURTI 1972) or N21°43'05”: E082°11'05" (Everest 1830, Survey of India sheet 64-K/02) lies about 6 km along the road north from Baloda Bazar (N21°39'30": E082°09'50"). NOTE 2: Uvala -- A multi-coned closed depression. The term was introduced to describe features assumed to be the second step in a 3-stage process of polje development, in which dolines were supposed to coalesce into uvalas. This mechanism is no longer accepted and the term uvala has fallen into disuse (LOWE & WALTHAM 1995: 37). Uvala -- Large closed depression formed by the coalescence of several dolines; compound doline (MONROE 1970 reprinted 1972: 18).
