A number of caves, ten of which have inscriptions (CEYLON TRAVELLER 1974: ?; 1983: 172). SITUATION: The rocky hill Kongala (note 1), 285 feet (87 m) high, lies four miles (6.5 km) from Kumana (note 2) as the crow flies or 7 miles [11 km] along a jeep track by-passing Bovattagala [note 3].
