Description
During the rainy season, a portion of the surface went down, leaving in the process a big crater (Hemasong M. Sangma, Nengkhong village headman, 1997.11.17 Mss letter) in the catchment area above the cave system of –>Tetengkol Balwakol. This turned out to be a landslide event resulting in area where crators (muddy pools) develop after rains. Much of the soil and mud, however, have found a way into the cave system beneath and -muddified- the infilling situation considerably. It is situated in the upper reaches of a tributary valley which joins the Chibe River from the west. ETYMOLOGY: The Garo noun -chiring- is a spring (of water) but I do not know what the Garo -mihmang- means (note 1).During the rainy season, a portion of the surface went down, leaving in the process a big crater (Hemasong M.
