Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 28/03/2016

An about 5 m wide cave entrance leads to a boulder strewn cave passage which leads some 15 m down to a more or less level cave floor covered with mud and calcite formations (speleothems) in a chamber measuring about 10 m wide and 20 m long (after Kozik, Andrzej W 1987 cave plan, in: SKALSKI 1990: 177). Judging from its name, parts of the cave are lit by daylight. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what has been christened »Green Chamber Cave« (Kozik, A W 1987b; Mikuszewski, J 1987; Skalski, A W 1990). SITUATION: The position (one second west of –>Kotomsar Cave) noted on the cave plan by Andrzej W. Kozik (1987 in: SKALSKI 1990: 177) indicates a spot which lies about 30 m west of –>Kotomsar Cave.

Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1950 (ca.): Professor Shankar Tiwari spent several months in the Kanger River valley in his time. Dr. Jyant Biswas (Raipur, 2008.05.17 personal correspondence) narrates how »During my study time once I recd. a letter in the green Chamber, in which it was written - "Dear inventor, please don't spoil the originality of this cave, try to keep it intact" - Caverna Tiwari, daughter of this cave inventor.« 1987 March: Explored by the Polish Kanger '87 expedition. The cave plan was drawn by Andrzej Kozik. 1997.01.30-31: No Green Chamber Cave was said to be known to Kanger National Park employees neither by its name nor by its description -- I obviously had not came anywhere close to tip expectations.
