Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

This cave is possibly identical with the cave at –>Komora (Kharpran Daly 1996), which is said to drain the cave at –>Nongbah. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what has been recorded as a Krem Bogda (Tyler, A P 2002), which, at a closer look, turns out to mean -Cave Cave- -- both -bogda- (Bengali) and -krem- (Khasi) are the words for a -cave- (English). CAVE DESCRIPTION: Two cave entrances give access to a horizontal cave passage (Colin Rogers: 16 m long; Andrew -Andy- Peter Tyler: 30 m long) with a flat mud floor, trending 040°, of phreatic origin but relic (abandoned by flowing water). The cave shows signs of seasonal flooding. Some of the walls are partly covered with tiny glittering crystals and there are some pretty grotto-like chambers with clean walls. SITUATION 2001, March: Near the K.L.M.C. Mining Corporation Guest House [N25°10'36.0”: E091°44'09.6”: 73 m asl], Bollaganje (Bholaganj), is a small river called Shenab [morelikely: A small tributary to the large river Shenab]. Follow about 800 yards upstream to the point [note 1]where it is fed by two seasonally dry streams (Rogers 2001.03.21 Mss). SITUATION 2001, October: Follow the Shonob [sic! qua: Shenab] river next to the KLMC quarry at Bollagunj past a tributary the … small fossil [sic! for: relic, abandoned] … cave is on the right 20 m from the river at the base of a cliff. A 2 by 1 m entrance leads to a series of mini chambers (Tyler 2001.10.11 Mss).likely: A small tributary to the large river Shenab].
