Description
On occasion of assembling Indian caves which are not in limestone Glennie (s.a. 1948-1952 Mss) refered to the Lonar Lake [see: Lonar Crater] in Buldan district of Berar [note 1]. This is a deep depression about 300 feet [91 m or so] in depth and a mile [1.6 km] in diameter, surrounded on all sides by a rim formed of blocks of basalt. … La Touche in Rec. G.S.I. XL I suggested the crater may be due to the collapse of the roof of a cavern formed by the escape of lava or of volcanic vapours.
