Description
A rock art site with paintings in red ochre showing several archers on horseback pursuing what are probably meant to represent Sambhar stags (SILBERRAD, C A 1907, 3: 567-568) SITUATION: Somewhere about »three miles« (circa 5 km) south-east of Kuria Kund (note 1) and »12 miles« (19.3 km) south-east of Manikpur Railway Station (note 2).
NOTE 1: Kuria Kund, a populated place in the mauza (an administrative subdivision) Kathauta - Mamaniyan, Banda district. NOTE 2: Manikpur 25°04': 81°07'E, a railway station, nowadays in Chitrakoot district, is shown on AMS sheet NG44-11 Allahabad (U502 series, 1961 edition) and in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 39 F5) on the Central Railway at a distance of 29 km along the road south-east from Karwi (25°12'N: 80°54'E). Manikpur (25°04': 81°07'E) is, perhaps, better not confused with the other Manikpur 25°46'N: 81°25'E, again a railway station but in Pratapgarh district (also in Uttar Pradesh) and on the north bank of the Ganges, which is shown in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 39 G4) on the Northern Railway about 60 km approximately north-west from Allahabad (25°27'N: 81°49'E).
