Description
A cave of dubious nature and origin (man-made or natural), endowed with a fabulous tunnel (note 1), is reported (note 2) from the neighbourhood of Peddapuram (note 3) where »a hill called Pándavulametta ('the Pándavas' hill), contains a cave which is supposed to be the mouth of an underground passage leading to Rajamundry [note 4]. It is popularly supposed that the Pándavas used to haunt this hillock and go to Rajamundry through this passage.«
NOTE 1: This fabulous tunnel would extend for a linear distance of 37 km to the west-south-west. NOTE 2: After CRAVEN (1969: 22) who quoted from GLENNIE (1951c: 7) after Glennie, E.A. (s.a. circa 1948 Mss: Preliminary Record) quoting HEMINGWAY (1907: 224). NOTE 3: Peddapuram N17°05': E082°08' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) positioned GLENNIE (1951c: 7) at »sheet 65 K/4 Lat. 17° 04', Long. 82° 08'.« NOTE 4: Rajahmundry (Rajahmondry, Rajamahendravaram, Rajamahendri and Rajamandri N16°59': E081°47' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) falls in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 103 H2).
