Description
A 3 m wide and 2 m high cave entrance, which makes it impossible to pass by without having a look inside (Scherzer 1991.11 Mss: Caves around Mussoorie / Höhlen um Mussorie) leads to some 25 m of what appears to represent a meandering stream cave passage in the shape of a tubular, 3 m diameter gallery in conglomerate. SITUATION: Pandu Gupha (note 1) lies at about halfway between the village of Kuwa (note 2) and 2.5 km short of the village and caves at –>Lakha Mandal (N30°43'45”: E78°06'40” ±2.5 km). The entrance lies next to the road where it climbs uphill with wide sweeping bends. CAVE DESCRIPTION: The decent sized entrance (3 m wide and 2 m high) makes it impossible to pass by without having a look inside. The passage, which has an almost circular shaped profile of 3 m in diameter, has a length of about 25 m. The shape of the ground plan is reminiscent of an elongated question mark. The floor is quite muddy but covered with straw, indicating that cattle [or other domesticated anials] are sheltered here. Small niches near the end of the passage look like places to sleep [note 3]. Pandu Gupha is formed in conglomerate but wether it is of natural origin or man-made I cannot answer [note 4] (Scherzer 1991.11 Mss).A 3 m wide and 2 m high cave entrance, which makes it impossible to pass by without having a look inside (Scherzer 1991.11 Mss: Caves around Mussoorie / Höhlen um Mussorie) leads to some 25 m of what appears to represent a meandering stream cave passage in the shape of a tubular, 3 m diameter gallery in conglomerate.
