MONUG (Cave at)
30.700000,77.850000
Description
NOTE 1: Little doubt remains that all of the nine "caves" (Banayana, Bayala, Bhuchkoti, Lakha Mandal, Madak, Monuk, Rajanu Khera, Shaknai Khera, Thudarhi Khera), which the Tahsildar of Chakrata (1941.02.05 Mss) had recorded, represent rock shelters. NOTE 2: »Monug« is not identified unless it is the village of Manak Sidh N30°17'23”: E77°55'22” (WGS84 nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) 47 km in a direct line SSW of Chakrata town. NOTE 3: »Dhanao khat« (gad, ghat, khad, khat = stream) is not identified unless it is the stream Dhangar Rao N30°24'14”: E77°45'24” (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) 34 km in a direct line SSW from Chakrata town.
An unspecified "cave" (note 1) of the dimension »40-30« (feet?) where »cattle live« (human use: cow shed) reported the Chakrata Tahsildar (1941.02.05 Mss) from one village of Monug (note 2) in the »Dhanao khat« (note 3), 30 km on foot or horse back in an unspecified direction from Chakrata (30°42'N: 77°51'E).
