Description
One to two metre high »caves« (more likely: cave entrances) in limestone reported MURTI (1972: 59) from above the banks and above the water level of Seonath river somewhere »a kilometer« (a mile?) west of Rampur. SITUATION: Murti's disputable location 1 km due west of Rampur (N21°50'10": E82°09'30": 242 m, Everest 1830, Survey of India 64-K/01 edition 1976) indicates a spot that lies about 500 m in a direct line from the Seonath river that flows 1 km north-west of Rampur. The latter spot, about a kilometre in a direct line north-west of Rampur, is also the place where a ferry plies --a suitable site to be seen by an investigator passing by without leaving his vehicle. On the other hand, there is the symbol for an anonymous temple (is this the cave?) indicated near N21°50'00": E82°07' (Everest 1830, Survey of India sheet 64-K/01 edition 1976) and approximately 2.5 km in a direct line west-south-west of Rampur above the right (southern) bank of Seonath river .
